Guests appreciate the Inn's historic charm and prime location, while noting the rustic nature and some practical limitations of the property. The experience blends unique architecture and atmosphere with expectations suited to a historic, park-based lodge.

Guests often praise

  • The historic and impressive log-and-stone architecture, especially the grand lobby and its large stone fireplace.
  • Prime location within Yellowstone, offering easy walking access to the Old Faithful geyser and other natural attractions.

  • Clean and comfortable rooms that offer a relaxing environment despite the absence of modern conveniences.
  • Family-friendly environment with small extras like on-site dining options and nearby wildlife sightings.

Worth knowing

  • No Wi-Fi and no air conditioning, which some guests found challenging in warmer weather.
  • Rooms are simple and somewhat dated; some original rooms have shared bathrooms rather than private facilities.
  • Parking is limited and not reserved for guests, leading to competition with day visitors to the geysers.

About this property

Welcome to Old Faithful Inn

Set within Yellowstone National Park, this historic inn dates back to 1903 and features a distinctive log-and-stone architecture. The towering lobby, highlighted by a massive stone fireplace and handcrafted details, reflects its longstanding heritage as one of the largest log-style buildings in the world. While the rooms and suites are straightforward and clean, some are part of the original structure and may lack modern conveniences such as private bathrooms or air conditioning.

Guests can enjoy on-site dining options including the Old Faithful Inn Bear Paw Deli and a restaurant and bar located within the property. With free parking and accessible facilities, the inn caters to families and visitors looking for a rustic, kid-friendly stay without Wi-Fi or luxury amenities like a fitness center or pool. The absence of air conditioning and airport shuttle services should be noted when planning a visit.

Its prime location is a key draw, situated just a short walk from the famous Old Faithful geyser and close to other notable Yellowstone attractions such as Morning Glory Pool and Kepler Cascades. Visitors often appreciate the inn’s unique atmosphere, historic charm, and proximity to natural wonders, making it well suited for those seeking an authentic park experience over modern comforts.

Reviews highlight the inn’s character and peaceful lobby ambiance, often mentioning live music and cozy common areas. However, some guests point out the dated rooms and limited housekeeping as drawbacks, suggesting that the property is best appreciated for its history and setting rather than luxury accommodations. Overall, it appeals to travelers who prioritize location and heritage, while accepting a simpler, more rustic stay.

We had such a wonderful stay at the Old Faithful Inn — it was the perfect getaway for our family with two kids. The building itself is just beautiful and full of history. You really feel like you’ve stepped back in time, but in the best way — cozy, charming, and so unique. Everywhere you look, there’s something cool to notice, from the big log beams in the lobby to the little details in the hallways. We loved all the little extras that made our stay so memorable. In the evenings there was a violinist playing in the lobby, which was so peaceful and lovely to listen to while we sat and relaxed. There are even some art exhibits tucked around the Inn that we enjoyed checking out. And of course, we couldn’t resist getting some huckleberry ice cream from the café — it was delicious and such a fun treat for the kids. The location really can’t be beat. It’s such an easy walk to see Old Faithful — we just strolled over whenever we wanted. We even saw bison grazing right by the building one morning, which was amazing to see up close. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Even though there’s no air conditioning, the fan they provided and the cool evening breeze kept us feeling good even on the hot days. We slept really well and felt so relaxed. All in all, this place has such a special vibe — historic, welcoming, and full of little surprises. We made so many great memories here and would definitely recommend the Old Faithful Inn to anyone visiting Yellowstone!

You stay at the Old Faithful Inn for the historical significance and the location, not for a luxurious experience. The lobby is beautiful, and it is fun to enjoy all of the details while sitting next to the large fireplace. Check-in was easy, and we were able to walk to our room quickly. The gift shop was nice, and the second floor patio was great for geyser gazing. I was a little surprised by the amount of housekeeping that was going on when we checked in in the late afternoon. The halls were lined with laundry bags and cleaning carts, which felt a little messy. The room was charming, but very small for our family of four. I did, however, appreciate the size of the bathroom and closet. The room did show its age. It was not dirty by any means, but it did feel old. I also found it strange that the recycle/trash bin sorter was right next to the bed, almost as a nightstand. The room was small, but sleeping next to the trash can is a little gross. The bathroom amenities were nice, and the shower pressure was excellent. The radiator heat was adequate but a little hard to get just right. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Old Faithful Inn. It's pricey, but for one night, the experience was very cool, and you can't beat the location.

Obviously the building is incredible. I would recommend staying at least once just to experience it. However, as a hotel goes it is lacking. For the prices they charge they need to include air conditioning in the newer rooms. Reserved parking for guests. We shouldn’t have to compete with people who are just there to see the geysers. Additionally, the dining experience could use some upgrades. The food was forgettable. The buffet was a mess, and with only the one line it can be a wait. The rooms are nice, however I do not see why a TV is not an option. Additionally, the walls are thin and people above you can make noise, more than normal for a hotel.

This rustic old hotel has so much character. The architecture is amazing with these beautiful giant fireplaces and woodwork. The complex has good food options (I have a dairy and gluten allergy and did great) and is right next to Old Faithful. The lobby had a violist and later a pianist and singer. It is a lovely hotel in the main building - the legs of the hotel where most of the rooms are leave much to be desired with accessibility issues. The rooms are dated and expensive. It was worth it to stay a night with the convenience of everything.

The Old Faithful Inn feels like a wooden castle in the forest. The grand lobby glows with warm light and natural wood, peaceful and beautiful. There’s no Wi-Fi, but that makes it even more relaxing. The room is simple, clean, and cozy — a perfect place to slow down and feel Yellowstone’s charm.

I wanted to do something special for my wife and I's trip to Yellowstone. I had long wanted to stay in the Old Faithful Inn, after only walking into the lobby to look around on my previous two visits to the Park. I was only interested in staying in one of the "old house" rooms. These are the ones which are part of the original Inn. They have a sink in the room, but no restroom/shower. Each hall has shared restroom and shower facilities. I loved the rustic style of our room, and the Inn. It was very neat to stay in a hotel which was 120+ years old. I found the room to be clean enough (maybe a bit of a stain or two on the rug). The bathrooms were busy at certain times of the day. They also had issues with running out of toilet paper and paper towels. One morning I had an issue with one of the toilet stalls (men's) being wet on the floor. I don't know if a kid had gone in there and really missed the toilet or what. So yeah, the biggest downside for me was the bathroom, but that said, it wasn't a deal breaker for me...and I generally hate public restrooms! The other downside was the fact that it could be a bit hard to find a parking spot in the lot out front of the Inn. My wife and I loved watching Old Faithful from the observation deck. We also loved the evening vibe in the Inn, when folks just sit and hang out in the multi-tiered lobby, listening to live music being played, visiting, reading, whatever. It really made for a memorable evening! We very much enjoyed our stay.

The evening experience is exceptional. Music is played and drinks including hot chocolate and an open bar are available. The accoustics carry the music up the open center of the lobby and people of all ages sit around its edges visiting and even playing cards. The second story porch looking over old faithful is open to enhance its veiwing during these evening hours as well as first thing in the morning to sit and watch with a hot cup of joe! It's truly an amazing place!

As a national historic landmark, Old Faithful Inn is the most requested lodging facility in the park. Built in 1903-1904 with local logs and stone, the Inn is one of the largest log-style structures in the world. The towering lobby features a massive stone fireplace and a hand-crafted clock made of copper, wood, and wrought iron serving as focal points. It’s always been a dream to stay here and finally we did it . We were so happy . Highly recommended place while you are visiting the Yellowstone NP.
